“I am like the River”. Kai Mayu’s name originates from the ancient language of Quechua, spoken in the Andean highlands where his father was born. As the son of a German diplomat he began travelling the world at a very young age. Peru, Columbia, Costa Rica and Egypt, every country left a mark on the young artist and after graduating from high school in Cairo in 2015, he decided to go back to his hometown Berlin to start studying music. “Life doesn’t go in straight lines. One moment it might be a soothing creek rippling through a silent forest, the next a violent stream leading into a giant waterfall. It is unpredictable. I try to reflect that in my songs” . The half-Peruvian artist embraces the meaning of his name in his music and merges the sounds of various genres to take his listeners on a trip into themselves.
